Wow...very informative! I thoguht obtaining pages with a PR of 7 was nearly impossible. It sounds like to me at least that pagerank is more than just the number of links pointing back to a webpage, but the PR of those linking pages and the quality of the oneway pages posting one's link back to your website.

It sounds to me that the PR 6 webpage linking back to your post had a big impact on the pagerank. Is this safe to assume? Any comments?

I recently noticed a decrease in my PageRank from 2/10 to 1/10. How is that possible? I have steadily been posting on websites, using keyword anchors, and submitting to various directories and using submission tools to assist me with this very time-consuming task.

Thanks,

Daniel.

I hope it is ok for you.

PR Level does not equal incoming links. Just read what matt cutts talks about and a few of the other google developers. PR, and more importantly the newer algo has way more involved. Authority, Trust, Depth and Density are all parts of this multi-variable beast. Regardless,

Make websites for users, and users will come. Make websites for search engines and your site will fail.

Looks like your formula might not work anymore since your PR7 page is now PR4 and your homepage is now PR0. That page and your home page are the only ones to come up in google now searching for http://richgilchrest.com - the rest have been sent to supplemental index hell.

What happenned?

Hi Rich,

Loved your post on achieving a page rank 7, I have never seen it presented in this way before and it's got me thinking again about my site. There is also a great free technical forum that is an invaluable resource for bloggers and website owners called http://forums.digitalpoint.com

Whether you are a beginner or experienced technie this provides invaluable advice for getting better page rank and SERPS listing for free. My advice is never pay an SEO company as this forum provides everything you need for free.

Keep up the good work on your blog, look forward to reading your next post

Very useful information on your blog. I have a very new site
football credit card with a PageRank 0. I wasn't too how to work on increasing the PR of that site. Thanks to your blog, I am much clearer now and hopefully my PR would start going up. I have noticed that only the BIG GUNS have PageRank 6, 7, 8... so I'm going to start with basics and target at least a PR4 first. I've bookmarked this blog and would be checking regularly.

Backlinks reporting leaves me totally in the dark. In checking several of these backlinks reporting services I find that my blog ranges all over the map--anywhere from 0 backlinks reported by one service to one of 81,000, by another. The "in-between" runs from 2,000-7,000. I've never been able to begin to figure this total lack of consistency out.
